Gunter unveils new Brundle Edition Turbo
Is a standard, seven-figure 993 restomod lacking the necessary exclusivity? The Brundle family provides an elevated solution.

You’re probably familiar with the wild Gunther Werks take on the 993 Turbo by now, especially if you saw the one in the paddock at this year’s PH Annual Service. It was pretty hard to miss. Even though they’re based in California, they’re clearly trying to compete with Singer on a global scale, which explains why the press car was in Europe this summer. That's likely why they’ve launched this, the Brundle Edition Turbo.

As the name suggests, the special edition honors Martin Brundle’s legendary career, which, while not really tied to Porsche, did feature a decade in F1 and a WEC title with Jaguar. Though, being the voice of F1 for nearly 30 years surely helped his global fame—he’s the guy whose commentary gave Brad Pitt’s F1 movie that extra bit of authenticity.

Either way, his racing legacy—especially his iconic helmet design—is a great starting point for an exclusive two-tone pearl paint job, styled by none other than Martin’s daughter, Charlie Brundle, who’s an automotive designer herself. “Designing a car that celebrates my dad’s career has been really personal,” she said. “It’s a rare chance to bring our two worlds together in a way that feels authentic to both of us.”

Beyond the hand-painted exterior and one-off forged magnesium wheels ‘with motorsport pedigree’, you get a custom-finished interior festooned with Brundle family easter eggs, most notably a signature quote stitched on the dash: “The most important bit of the car is the nut holding the steering wheel.” There is also a nod to the colours of the F1 machines Martin drove in the seat bolsters, and exclusive Brundle Edition door sills.

“I’ve spent my entire life driving the most advanced machinery in the world. For me, one of the most unique aspects of a Gunther Werks vehicle is that, despite having extreme race car performance, it is remarkably civilized and usable too,” said Martin Brundle. “To collaborate with Gunther Werks and to have my daughter lead the design means this project is deeply personal. We’ve poured our collective experience from the driver’s seat, the paddock and the design studios into this car.”
Gunther doesn’t list a price for this trip down memory lane, but since only five Brundle Editions are being made, you’d expect a markup on the £1.25m a standard Turbo already costs. Naturally, that gets you the same heavily modified 993 Turbo, plus that iconic air-cooled 4.0-litre flat-six pumping out 860hp and 610lb ft of torque, all sent through a six-speed manual Getrag gearbox to the rear wheels. Is this British-inspired collaboration worth the extra cash? That’s up to you.
